Cardinal is a 20-seat restaurant on Eyre Place, a quiet stretch of Edinburgh's New Town. We're a MICHELIN Guide Recommended restaurant, with a Good Food Guide Very Good distinction and a place in the Square Meal Top 100 2026.
For private events we offer two ways to take the space — all of it, or a room within it. Both are built around the same thing the restaurant is known for: careful cooking, a calm room, and a pace that lets the evening breathe.
Every private event at Cardinal is shaped around the occasion. Bring us a date, a rough party size and what the evening is — an anniversary, a visiting board, a rehearsal dinner — and we'll come back with a menu, a wine suggestion, a running order and a price.
Dietary requirements, specific wines, a speech, a cake, a photograph at the end of the night — we'll plan around whatever the evening needs. The room is the same restaurant you'd book a table in on any Friday; the difference is that the night is yours.

40ths, 50ths, 60ths and the ones beyond — seated, properly, with the kitchen's full attention.
Small weddings and rehearsal dinners for up to 24. Seated dinner with a bespoke menu, not a function.
Client entertaining, board dinners, partner dinners. The room is calm enough to talk across the table.
Private Christmas dinners for teams that take the season seriously. December fills early — enquire by September.
The private dining room suits the smallest celebrations — an anniversary dinner, an engagement, a family marking something quietly.
Edinburgh graduation parties and visiting-family dinners, usually parties of six to ten in the private room.
Our set menus are the starting point. For full-restaurant hire, we'll more often build a bespoke menu around the occasion — tell us what the evening is, and what the table eats.
